indiscretion #243
Tuesday, Apr. 08, 2003 - 6:11 pm Now Playing: Aereogramme "Black Path" I'm trying to find the lyrics to this Aereogramme record on line, and I'm having no luck at all. Any help would be appreciated. So, the Bargain DJ Collective officially has celebrity draw. Yes, last night, as we DJ'ed, a celebrity rolled into the Double Down. Wee Man - the midget from Jackass came in with one super hot girl, and one fat goth girl (why are all goth girls fat?). He was shit hammered as Benny and Jeff Murphy both found out when they tried to say "hi" to him. Oddly enough, Jeff Murphy had his Minutemen record with the Jackass theme on it, so we played that in honor of Wee Man's presence. By the end of the evening, he and the hot chick were making out all over the bar. It was pretty funny. Saturday night, I saw Sigur Ros for the second time. They were absolutely incredible...better than the first time I saw them. Watching them makes me feel like I'm in a trance or on another planet. While at the show, the lovely Sara was kind enough to introduce me to Jonah from Far and Jonah's One Line Drawing. One Line Drawing had played earlier that afternoon at the UNLV crapfest, and he came to check out Sigur Ros afterwards. He was a complete gentleman as I drunkenly praised him for all of his work with Far, and as I stumbled through trying to tell him what A huge fan I was. I actually met Jonah back in 1998 at the Gavin Conference in San Diego when Far played with Incubus, The Urge and Funkdoobiest. I mentioned this to Jonah, and he said he remembered (although I'm sure he was just being nice). Afterwards, we made our way over to the Rock for (as the marquee so elegantly read) "Big Lizard presents The Official Sigur Ros Afterparty with The Bargain DJ Collective." After too many drinks, and too many xanax, I blacked out. Thankfully I have a very good group of friends who made sure I got home ok. Ah, my downward spiral of self-destruction continues. Friday night, I went to see Millencolin. It's my first time seeing them since 1997, and my first time seeing them since I got one of their album covers tattooed on my leg. Incidentally, I love Millencolin (not as much as I use to, but...) but the reason I got the tattoo was because I liked the artwork (it's the cartoon drawing of 4 monkeys from the "For Monkey's" album cover). So, my friend Kim got me backstage so I could show the tattoo to the band. They all loved it, and told me in the best English they could muster that they loved the tattoo. Nikolai took several pictures of it with his micro sized digital camera. The drummer, Larzon, didn't say anything to me at all the whole time. Then, as I was leaving he walked over to me, put his hand on my shoulder, and quietly said to me "your tattoo is really cool." It was so funny. The song "Wood" on this Aereogramme record is fucking brilliant. I think these guys are my new favorite band. I'm selling my Beastie Boys ticket for their show at the House of Blues on April 25th. I was oging to see the show, then leave immediately afterwards and drive out to Indio for Coachella, but I've decided against all that nonsense. As much as I'd like to see the Beasties at a venue as small as HOB, I'd rather spend Friday night in Indio with Dre and Andy at the Coachella pre-party that I've been invited to. I'll be seeing the Beasties on Saturday anyways. So, if anyone wants to buy my ticket (or know of someone that does) let me know. They're going for $150 on Ebay right now...but I don't think I'll charge that much. Well, maybe... "Turn your face to the wall and laugh."
