Every time I see Built To Spill I feel like my life has changed. Last night was no exception. I truly believe that they are the single greatest living band in the world. Here's last night's setlist:

Yes, they ended the show with a 20 minute version of Neil Young's "Cortez The Killer," and it was absolutely beautiful.
I went backstage after the show, and hung out with the band in their Green Room. Yes, I could have been fired just for being back there, but it was worth the risk. The guys in the band are so incredibly nice. Doug and I chatted for a little while. The band was happy that they were finally able to get a gig in Vegas. I mentioned to Doug that we had met at an instore at Virgin in L.A. about 5 years ago, and he said he remembered meeting me. He probably did...I was so nervous talking to him, blathering on about how much his music means to me, and how it's gotten me through the toughest times in my life. He's a genuinely good person.
The band all signed my setlist. When I asked Doug to sign it, he neatly printed "Dug."
How cool.
I just found out about a girl that I barely knew. I knew who she was, and she and I would acknowledge each other when we saw one another. Apparently she died in a drunk driving accident Saturday night. It's so sad to see a young life claimed by something so stupid. I hope this makes everyone think twice about drinking and driving.
Unfortunately, I bet most of you will be out doing it again within a week.
